| View South from the dock. With many trees on the lot, Fernwood is very private. For most of the year the water is crystal clear but as in all native waters, there are natural algae blooms especially in late summer. | View West along the porch | |||

| Mid-summer sunset at Fernwood. These few days the sun barely goes below the horizon and then northern sky stays a faint pink until a very early sunrise. Our personal favorite time of year in the north country. | South side of the cottage from t he picnic area. A charcoal grill, charcoal and liter are provided. In the early summer the yard is filled with wildflowers. | |||

| The Fisher Lake chain as seen from 17,000 feet. Fisher Lake is about 450 acres in size with a maiximum depth of about 30 feet.. Going south (down) the next lake is Catherine which is accessed by a large culvert under East Fisher Lake Road. Next, via about 3/4 mile on the picturesque Turtle River is Cedar Lake, a beautiful wilderness lake with 2 islands for picnics. This trip is a great canoe trip from Fernwood. Depending on how energetic you are the round trip takes from two to five hours, or less if you go by motor. Fernwood is located about midway down the east side of Fisher Lake. Just to the east of Fernwood are two more wilderness lakes, Twin Lakes, which are in the Northern Higlands State Forest and are accessable by a woods road across the street from Fernwood. A canoe caddy is provided to haul the canoe over there. These lakes abound in panfish and crappie - a wonderful wilderness experience for kids and adults alike. At the northwest end of Fisher Lake is the exit of the Turtle River and Shay Mill Dam, a pretty waterfall, boat landing and picnic area--another nice canoe trip from Fernwood. | ||||
